# Navigate the workspace

CourtAid's **sidebar** is your main navigation. Everything is scoped to a **country** (Australia, New Zealand, or UK) — your URL reflects this, e.g. `/au` for Australia.

## Sidebar at a glance

The annotated diagram below labels every main area of the sidebar.

## Research

![Research section: New Chat, Search, and History](/files/nElM9uKKPMZHR1WW8YWR)

| Item         | What it does                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **New Chat** | Opens the landing page where you ask legal research questions in plain English. Toggle to Search on the input bar if you want a results feed instead. Sign-in is not required to open the page; **queries apply** when you're signed in and send AI messages. |
| **Search** | Opens the **summary feed** with Smart and Boolean modes, filters, and List/Map views. Marked **Free** — browsing Search does **not** use your query allowance. See [Your first search](/getting-started/your-first-search.md). |
| **History** | Opens your **global chat history** — past conversations and favourited documents. Separate from **Chat history** under Projects, which only shows conversations inside a project workspace. |

On your first visit, CourtAid offers an in-app tour that walks through filters, Search vs Chat, Projects, Compare, history, and your plan. Restart it anytime from **profile menu → Tour**.

## Mobile

On mobile, the sidebar collapses into a hamburger menu. Filters open in a bottom sheet. Core workflows — chat, search, save to project — work the same as on desktop.

# Agent Instructions
This documentation is published with GitBook. GitBook is the documentation platform designed so that both humans and AI agents can read, navigate, and reason over technical content effectively. Learn more at gitbook.com.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.courtaid.ai/getting-started/navigating-the-workspace.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
